Who are Blue Frog?

Fiona Sinclair and Bob Riley have been working together since the early nineties when they cut their managerial teeth on music festivals in the north of England. The challenges were huge, the arts teams were tiny, so they became fast-learning chameleons – web designer one minute, electricians the next; schmoozing sponsors in stately homes on Friday, shovelling cowpats from an outdoor concert arena on Saturday morning. Those years had their glamorous and not-so-glam moments, but they were the most thorough training possible, picking up an enormous variety of skills and experience along the way.

In the Millennium year, Bob and Fiona created Blue Frog Music Management (don’t ask “why the name?”!!), and within a few months were appointed their first major contract as General Managers of The Lancashire Sinfonietta. This extraordinary and unique organisation was exactly the kind of long-term project they wanted to grab with both hands. They hold responsibility for strategic planning for the orchestra as well as the day to day running of the concert season and education programme. Now in their 6th year with the group they are proud to have featured some of Britain’s biggest soloists with the orchestra in community settings, established a competition and mentoring scheme for young composers, created a new Friends organisation, amongst their many other achievements.

Over the years, Blue Frog have been very fortunate in having arranged a large number of VNGs (Very Nice Gigs), which have included fixing the orchestra for the Batignano Opera Festival (Italy); backing Mariah Carey & Westlife for Top of the Pops (appearing on TOTP was one of Fiona’s life-long ambitions!); taking a feasibility study for the Stately Homes Music Festival; performing for and meeting the Queen during her Golden Jubilee; touring the Greek Dodecanese Islands and performing on the occasional mega-yacht, and the list goes on.

Blue Frog’s work is as diverse as it is interesting and new challenges are always a thrill. But it is the steady progress and advancement of work such as our Education Programmes that really mean the most to us. Our strong personal belief in the educational and emotional power of music, and the importance of offering as wide an audience as possible access to quality musical experiences is what has always inspired Blue Frog’s work.
